AHS achieves FSC certification
AHS, the UK's leading supplier of biomass renewable wood chip fuel, has achieved Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) certification. The certification shows the firm’s commitment to using wood from well-managed woodland.
The FSC was established in 1993 in response to concerns over global deforestation and a labelling system was introduced in 1996 to track the process for producing wood-based products. It is a not-for-profit organisation with a global presence, and has the support of both Greenpeace and Friends of the Earth, as well as the Woodland Trust in this country.
The certification is awarded only when those in the Chain of Custody have satisfied the stringent rules. This ensures that the forest continues to be well managed, and provides protection for rare animals and plants. There is also a requirement for woodland owners to employ local workers.
AHS Managing Director, Nick Guest, commented:
"We are delighted to have achieved this very prestigious certification. We originally decided to seek the award because we could see the benefits of the FSC's efforts to create an internationally recognised tracking system of agreed principles. Our customers can now be confident that our products come free of any connection with destructive and harmful practice, such as illegal logging or human rights abuse.
Being FSC-certified underlines AHS's commitment to meeting the highest possible social and enviromental standards."
